Visual Fault Locator (VFL)

A VFL emits a visible red laser light (around 650 nm) through the fiber. If the fiber is broken or severely bent, the light escapes at the fault point, making it visible through the cable jacket. VFLs are cost-effective, quick, and ideal for short distances (typically under 2 km) or indoor setups, such as patch panels or FTTH drops. They do not require equipment at the far end of the fiber, making them convenient for rapid troubleshooting and maintenance .

Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
