  • Method A (A-B Polarity): Uses Type-A trunk cables and A-to-B duplex patch cords to maintain straight-through connections. Tx on one end connects to Rx on the other .
  • Method B (B-A Polarity): Uses Type-B trunk cables with reversed fiber positions; patch cords still maintain Tx-to-Rx alignment .
  • Method C (Pair-Reversed): Uses pair-reversed trunk cables with standard A-to-B patch cords to ensure proper signal flow .

In all methods, the X and Y orientation of fibers in connectors and adapters must be consistent to prevent polarity errors. Connectors often have a keying mechanism (KeyUp-KeyUp or KeyUp-KeyDown) to maintain proper orientation and prevent rotation .

Practical Considerations

  • Always document the polarity scheme and fiber orientation used in the network.
  • Ensure that Tx ports connect to Rx ports across all cable segments, patch panels, and adapters.
