Support and Stability

Cable trays must be supported at intervals specified by the manufacturer, typically 4–6 feet for horizontal runs, with a maximum of 5 feet according to NEC guidelines. Ladder-type trays should have rungs no more than 9 inches apart . Proper support prevents sagging, maintains alignment, and ensures the tray can handle cable weight and external loads.

Special Considerations

In fire-resistant or hazardous areas, spacing may need adjustment to comply with safety regulations. Materials or coatings may also be required to meet fireproofing standards .
