Role and Placement

Aggregation switches, also called distribution switches, are positioned between the access layer and the core layer in a three-tier network architecture . They consolidate traffic from multiple access switches, wireless access points, and edge devices, then forward it to the core layer. This placement allows for efficient traffic management, reduces bottlenecks, and simplifies network expansion .

Mapping in a Network
