Steps for Cold Splicing

The typical procedure for cold splicing patch cords or fiber optic cables includes :

  1. Install the cold connector and secure the snap rings on both sides.
  2. Strip the fiber about 3 cm and clean it with alcohol.
  3. Cut the fiber to the required length (approximately 1.4 cm) using a precision cutting tool.
  4. Insert one fiber end into the cold connector.
  5. Repeat for the other fiber end, ensuring both fibers are aligned in the central V-groove of the splicer.
  6. Secure the snap rings tightly and test the connection for optical performance. This method is particularly useful in FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) deployments, where rapid installation and low-cost connections are essential .
