High Beam Module
A high beam module, such as the CANM8 CANNECT HIGHBEAM, allows additional driving lights to be triggered by a vehicle's high beam signal via the CAN Bus system.
What a High Beam Module Does
A high beam module is designed to detect when a vehicle's high beams are active and provide a low-ampere 12V output to control aftermarket driving lights or lightbars. It does not directly power the lights; instead, it triggers a relay that switches the lights on when the high beam is engaged, ensuring safe and reliable operation without overloading the vehicle's electrical system .
How It Works
Modern vehicles often use CAN Bus wiring, which digitally controls lighting circuits. The high beam module connects to the vehicle's CAN Bus (CAN HI and CAN LO) and a permanent fused 12V power supply, along with a chassis ground. The module monitors the CAN network for high beam activity and outputs a 12V signal (typically 1A max) to the relay controlling the additional lights . Many modules include a status LED to indicate proper connection, CAN activity, and vehicle recognition .
Installation Considerations
- Compatibility: These modules are not universal; they are compatible only with specific vehicle makes and models. Always check the manufacturer's compatibility list .
- Wiring: A separate wiring harness is required to connect the module to the driving lights. The module itself cannot directly drive high-power lightbars .
- Power Supply: Connect via a 5A fuse to a permanent 12V source and ensure a solid chassis ground .
