Principle of Anti-dust Fiber Optic Sensor

An anti-dust fiber optic sensor operates by using light intensity changes in optical fibers while employing an air-flow barrier to prevent dust interference, ensuring accurate measurements in harsh environments.

Working Principle

Anti-dust fiber optic sensors are designed to measure physical quantities, such as displacement or air gaps, by detecting changes in the intensity of light transmitted through optical fibers. A transmitting fiber emits light toward the target surface, and receiving fibers collect the reflected light. Variations in the distance or surface properties of the target cause changes in the reflected light intensity, which are then converted into measurable signals, allowing precise monitoring of displacement or gaps .

Anti-Dust Mechanism

To prevent dust or sand from affecting the light signal, these sensors incorporate a protective air-flow system. A thin air supply tube surrounds the optical fibers and generates a column of air at the probe tip, effectively blowing away dust particles before they can interfere with the light path. This ensures that the sensor maintains high accuracy even in dusty or sandy environments, such as near wind turbine fans or industrial machinery .

Structural Design

The typical anti-dust fiber optic sensor probe consists of:

  • Transmitting optical fiber at the center
  • First group of receiving fibers surrounding the transmitter
  • Second group of receiving fibers surrounding the first group
  • Air supply tubule forming the outermost layer This concentric arrangement allows the sensor to collect reflected light efficiently while the air column prevents dust accumulation on the fiber tips .
