  3. Environmental Factors: Temperature extremes, power fluctuations, or ESD damage can degrade module performance .
  4. Optical Power Issues: Receive and transmit optical power outside normal ranges can prevent proper link establishment .
  5. Port Configuration Errors: Mismatched rates, duplex modes, or auto-negotiation settings between two ends of a link can prevent the port from going Up .

Diagnostic and Debugging Methods

  1. Port and Link Verification:
    • Check port configuration using commands to verify speed, duplex, and negotiation mode.
    • Perform a self-loop test on the optical fiber to confirm the port can go Up; if it fails, the port may be faulty .
  2. Signal Testing:
