Setting up a fiber optic box to connect to a router

To connect your fiber optic internet, plug the fiber cable into the ONT, link the ONT to your router via Ethernet, power both devices, and configure your router for internet access.

Step 1: Prepare Your Equipment

Ensure you have the following components:

• Optical Network Terminal (ONT): Converts the fiber optic signal into an electrical signal your router can use .
• Fiber optic cable: Usually a thin yellow cable with SC/APC or SC/UPC connectors .

Step 2: Connect the Fiber Cable

3. Align the connector carefully and insert it into the ONT's optical input until it clicks securely .
4. Handle the fiber connector by its plastic housing to avoid damage or contamination .

Step 3: Connect the ONT to the Router

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the ONT's LAN/Ethernet port to the WAN/Internet port on your router .
2. Ensure the cable is fully seated and not bent sharply to maintain signal integrity.

Step 4: Power On Devices

1. Plug in the ONT and wait 2–5 minutes for the status lights to stabilize, indicating a successful connection to your ISP .
2. Power on the router and wait for its indicator lights to confirm connectivity.

Step 5: Configure the Router

1. Access the router's admin panel via a web browser (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), .
2. Enter your ISP account information if required, or select the option for automatic connection .
3. For advanced setups, configure VLAN IDs, QoS, or Wi-Fi settings to optimize performance .
4. Save the settings and verify that your devices can access the internet.

Step 6: Optimize Your Fiber Connection

• Use wired connections for critical devices to reduce latency .
• Keep firmware updated on both ONT and router for security and performance .
• Position devices in a dry, ventilated area away from heat or moisture .
