National Standard Deviation of Cable Tray Thickness

The allowable deviation of cable tray thickness is defined by national standards JB/T 10216-2000 and JB/T 10216-2013, with tolerances depending on tray width and material.

Standard Thickness and Allowable Deviations

Cable trays are manufactured in steel and aluminum, with standard thicknesses as follows:

  • Steel trays: 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.2mm
  • Aluminum trays: 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.2mm, 2.5mm For ladder-type trays, the side plate, rung, and connecting plate thicknesses are considered, while for trough-type trays, the pallet, cover plate, and connecting plate thicknesses are included .

JB/T 10216-2000 Standard (Outdoor Hot-Dip Galvanized)

  • Width < 100mm: minimum thickness deviation ≥ 1.0mm
  • Width > 800mm: minimum thickness deviation ≥ 2.5mm

JB/T 10216-2013 Standard (Indoor Cold-Dip Galvanized)

  • Width ≤ 150mm: minimum thickness deviation ≥ 1.0mm
  • Width > 800mm: minimum thickness deviation ≥ 2.2mm These deviations represent the tolerance range allowed during manufacturing to ensure structural integrity and compliance with national standards .

Zinc Coating Thickness

For galvanized trays, the zinc layer also has a standard thickness:

  • Thin layer: ≥ 12 microns
  • Thick layer: ≥ 65 microns

Practical Implications

While the standards do not provide a statistical "standard deviation," the allowable deviation effectively defines the acceptable range of thickness variation. Engineers and manufacturers use these tolerances to ensure trays meet load-bearing, corrosion resistance, and installation requirements. For example, a steel tray with a nominal thickness of 2.0mm and a width > 800mm must not be thinner than 2.5mm according to the 2000 standard . Understanding these tolerances is critical for structural safety, cable fill compliance, and long-term durability in industrial and commercial installations .
