Overview of Single-Mode Fiber Testing
Fluke Networks provides several tools for testing single-mode fibers, including the CertiFiber Pro OLTS, OptiFiber Pro OTDR, and SimpliFiber Pro Optical Power Meter. These instruments measure optical loss, verify link integrity, and inspect connector end-faces to ensure compliance with industry standards . Setting Up a Single-Mode Test
- Select the Test Module: On the CertiFiber Pro, choose the module for single-mode testing.

- Inspection: Use the FI-1000 FiberInspector or the CertiFiber Pro USB camera to inspect and grade connector end-faces according to IEC 61300-3-35 standards. Clean connectors before testing to avoid measurement errors or damage .
Testing Without Remote End Access
If the far end of the fiber is inaccessible, testing can still be performed using a SmartLoop cord and a remote assistant to connect test cords. This allows Tier 1 (basic loss) and Tier 2 (extended) testing, ensuring the fiber is operational and generating a complete test report via LinkWare .
Generating the Test Report
- Run the Test: Perform the loss measurement and connector inspection.
- Store Results: CertiFiber Pro stores results internally and can export them to the LinkWare platform.
- Report Contents: A typical Fluke single-mode fiber test report includes:
- Fiber identification and project name
- Measured optical loss (dB)
- Connector inspection results (pass/fail grading)
- Test limits and standards applied
- Optional distance or fault location if using OTDR or Fiber OneShot PRO
